It seems that Tumblr has reminded me of our anniversary just now! I can’t believe it’s been a year! Longest e-relationship I’ve ever had and I promise to continually keep you happy by posting film and entertainment related articles online! I’ll try to spice things up a bit, once in a while, so cheers to us!
The answer is YES! I most definitely care! And I want to know how successful this movie will be in the future. The cast has been set in stone with Jamie Dornan as Mr.50 Shades of Grey himself and Dakota Johnson who is playing Anastasia Steele. There’s been controversy surrounding this adaptation, and a few setbacks have occurred (notably when Charlie Hunnan dropped out of the leading male role) but I think that it’s going to be quite the box office hit! It probably doesn’t take much to produce the film, as both leading actors are relatively unknown which means that their fees are much more affordable and more than half of the scenes will undoubtedly be in that notorious “red room” anyway! (high production value on low budget? check!).
Also, so much press and buzz has surrounded this film that people are almost expected to go see it! It doesn’t matter if it’s going to be terribly horribly bad or terribly horribly good, but it matters that people are going to make this adaptation a trend and people follow trends. Most likely this buzz will translate into box office numbers relative for this genre and investors will make a nice profit regardless.
I, myself am excited to see this film. Just like the 2012 highly anticipated, and highly controversial film Magic Mike (which I went to see with my girlfriends and had a great time!) and it was a box office success of $167 million worldwide on a budget of $7 million. Also, depending on the direction of director Sam Taylor-Johnson, we might see some sort of “erotic art-film” much like Steve McQueen's 2011 Shame which helped boost Michael Fassbender’s acting career and it might do the same for both Dornan and Johnson.
This movie is set to release in 2015 and expect to see me in the back row! (the front rows hurt my eyes…). Here is a synopsis, but keep in mind I had to G rate it:
“A literature student Anastasia Steele meets a handsome, yet tormented, billionaire named Christian Grey"
Today was a beautiful day, especially when Disney released the highly anticipated trailer teaser to their new movie Maleficient, starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning. I’ve been so anxious for this teaser, and to see how director Robert Stromberg will set the tone of the movie. After watching the trailer, we can expect another dark and mature Disney film, much like their 2010’s Alice in Wonderland and this summer’s Oz the Great and Powerful.
I’m such a fan of Ellen Fanning, and I look forward to seeing her take on more versatile roles. I just hope that she’ll have a bigger part than just (oops! spoilers!) “pricking her finger” and “sleeping for half the movie”. Also, it’s been a while since Angelina Jolie has graced us with her on-screen presence! Last time we saw her act was in 2010’s The Tourist, and Kung-Fu Panda doesn’t count! A nice fact about this teaser, you can see her daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt frolicking around for 5 seconds. Vivienne plays the younger version of Fanning’s character.
This movie is set to be released in the summer of 2014 and below is a synopsis:
From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
Doesn’t it sound like a similar story to “Wicked” the musical? Well I loved Wicked and I can’t wait for the summer of 2014!
P.S For all you Doctor Who Fans, the actor Peter Capaldi, who is set to play the 12th Doctor, is playing the role of King Kinloch in this movie! (squeal! albeit for a small role!)
The creators of HIMYM, Carter Bays & Craig Thomas, plus Emily Spivey, plan on creating this spin-off which would center on the life of the “mom” and her own adventures to finding the future husband. Like the original, it would involve 5 friends and apparently MccLaren’s Pub will be the link that connects both series.
I don’t know how I feel about this new spin-off, since HIMYM wasn’t a huge sensation like Friends, and it seemed a lot of viewers got tired of waiting so many seasons to meet the mother. Also, as we already know who the father is…sorry spoilers! (TED MOSBY), I wonder if the spin-off will be able to add the elements of mystery and suspense-fullness that got many intrigued in the original series.
Well, I am for sure anxious to figure out if this comedy will be as successful as the original.
Nadine Valdez is a young etch-a-sketch artist living in Toronto, Ontario and her “Breaking Bad” sketches have been featured on the front pages of multiple internet sites, such as Reddit and 9Gag, garnering millions of viewers from around the world. Nadine has been etch-a-sketching for the past four years and has mastered the art of drawing in a continuous line to create some of pop culture’s most beloved characters. You’ve probably came across her work and I had the opportunity to sit down with Nadine for an interview.
Q: What inspired you to start etch-a-sketching?
A: “Nothing really inspired me, I was bored at the time and I went to Wal-Mart and so I bought one. I guess for shits and giggles, I started sketching different things around the house and I realized that I was kind a good at it. Apparently making round things on etch-a-sketch is really hard. That’s how it started.”
Q: How long does it take you to make one etch-a-sketch?
A: “Usually I’ll do it over the stretch of a few days, the last one [Picture of Walter White] took me 4 hours total. This one [Picture of Jesse Pinkman] took me 8 hours, just because I had to start over so many times. They get shaken out so easily, it’s a very delicate art. Actually, I really hope for Aaron Paul, the actor that plays Jesse on Breaking Bad, to say hi to me with this art work!”
Q: How hard is it?
A: “It’s funny, my friend didn’t know that it was one continuous line of drawing, it’s a lot harder than most people think. I think that it’s challenging, which is why I usually prefer etch-a-sketch over the traditional methods of drawing, because I feel that anyone can draw with a pencil and paper.”
Q: What images do you usually etch-a-sketch?
A: “Usually, people’s faces are really fun, celebrities and things that have a lot of shading areas are good as well, otherwise it’s too simple. I also like to etch-a-sketch things that are relevant and cool. Comic book characters are really fun to do, because they have a lot of detailed lines. I love things with a lot of details because it’s more impressive.”
Q: How is your process?
A: “Well, I have to be in the mood to be etch-a-sketching, because I’m essentially just sitting there and twiddling my thumbs up and down!”
Q: What is your next big project?
A: “I’ve been working on this particular one for a long time, having to re-work it at least 17 times. I’m planning on etch-a-sketching a Game of Thrones character, Rob Stark, but it’s been shaken out so many times. If I don’t think that it’s good enough, I won’t put it online.”
Q: Any Advice for up and coming Etch-A-Sketch artists?
A: “Don’t think, keep your fingers limber and drink a lot of water”
Nadine has mentioned that one of her biggest goals in life is to get on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and to have the opportunity to speak during a TED conference. I look forward to seeing some of Nadine’s other works of art and keep an eye out for her GOT sketch!
